To study in Japan, you must first obtain a residence status and then apply for a visa.
When obtaining this certification, three main points are strictly reviewed.
“Japanese proficiency is not required for studying at a language school.”

• Do you really want to study?
• Do you have the minimum Japanese language ability?
• Do you have enough funds to study abroad?

The required level of Japanese proficiency varies depending on the school you wish to enroll in.

If you plan to study at a school where classes are conducted in Japanese or in both Japanese and English, it is generally recommended to have at least an N2 level on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or a score of around 250 on the Japanese section of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU).
However, more universities are now offering degree programs in English. If you wish to enroll in such a program, Japanese proficiency may not be required.

The suitable visas for language study abroad are a tourist visa, student visa, or working holiday visa. A tourist visa is ideal for short-term study, while a student visa allows for long-term study and part-time work. A working holiday visa offers greater flexibility, allowing you to study and work at the same time.
With a tourist visa or a working holiday visa, you can stay in Japan without attending school.

Japan has a health insurance system to reduce medical expenses.
Foreigners staying in Japan for more than three months must enroll in the National Health Insurance program.

You can work part-time while studying in Japan.

With permission from the Immigration Bureau, you can work up to 28 hours per week
(and up to 40 hours during long vacations such as summer break).

There is no age restriction.

However, if it has been more than five years since you graduated from your last school, you will need to submit documents explaining your study abroad purpose in detail.

It is possible to do an internship or job hunting while studying in Japan. However, if you wish to earn income through an internship, you must apply for and obtain a “Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted Under the Status of Residence Previously Granted” from the Immigration Bureau.
